Robert J. Watkins

Bob Watkins established his business consulting firm R. J. Watkins & Company, Ltd. in 1980 with offices in San Diego, San Francisco and London. His experience includes President and CEO of a $280 million operating company and Managing Director for the San Diego office of the international executive recruiting firm of Russell Reynolds Associates. He has held executive positions with American Hospital Supply Corporation, serving on the corporation’s acquisition and divestiture team. He also served as a Management Consultant for the national accounting firm Deloitte & Touche.

Bob sat on the Board of Trustees for National University and was an Advisory Board Member for San Diego State University, School of Business. He served three terms as the President of the San Diego County Board of Education. He is currently a member of the Advisory Board for the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences and a member of the Education Advisory Committee for the United Way of San Diego County..

Bob currently sits on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committees of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation and the World Trade Center San Diego. He is the past Chairman of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority; and in 2008 he was a candidate for U.S. Congress. Bob is an active member of the Boards for Regenesis Biomedical and Power Waste Gasification. He is a founding member and Trustee of the San Diego National Sports Foundation, the organizer and builder of the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego. He served on the Board of Directors for San Diego International Sports Council and the YMCA of San Diego County; was Chairman of the Board of the San Diego County American Red Cross; and was the President of the San Diego Natural History Museum’s Board of Trustees. He is also a founding member and three-term President of United States Rugby Union. He is a partner in Tollbridge Ventures, Aztec Venture Network, a seed capital venture fund. In 2010, Bob was named Director of the Year by the Corporate Directors Forum for his work in Economic Development.

Bob is a graduate of San Diego State University.

Erika Chaney

Erika Chaney is the Research Director at R. J. Watkins & Company, Ltd. With her senior level search experience, she is an integral member of the team; she is responsible for research and candidate identification and development. Her search experience includes executive involvement with a wide variety of clients in diverse industries such as life sciences, biomedical, technology, professional services, manufacturing, transportation, higher education, nonprofit, and government.

She holds a Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Communications from Chapman University.

At Chapman University, Erika played on four NCAA sports teams: volleyball, water polo, swimming and crew. She was honored as an Academic All-American in Volleyball.

Upon graduating from Chapman University, Erika was hired as a Corporate Instructor for ExecuTrain where she trained business professionals from companies such as Qualcomm, Intel, Kyocera Wireless and Solar Turbines to use computer software applications. For her outstanding training, she received the Circle of Excellence Award for being in the top 5% of all trainers in the national ExecuTrain system.

As a graduate student, Erika conducted a large-scale market research project and wrote a marketing plan for the Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum. She also conducted a significant market research project for San Diego Magazine to evaluate the viability of publishing a new magazine.

Prior to joining the R. J. Watkins & Company team, Erika worked in the commercial real estate industry at Burnham Real Estate (now Cushman & Wakefield) and Grubb & Ellis‚ BRE Commercial (now Cassidy Turley BRE Commercial) as a Research and Marketing Specialist.

Erika has been a mentor though Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County since 2007.
